Marcel Graf

3D Generalist

About Me

Hello! I'm Marcel, a 3D Generalist based in Berlin with a background in film and VFX. I completed my B.A. in Digital Film Design (Animation & VFX) in 2026 and gained professional experience in 3D advertising at met[ads], where I worked on anamorphic 3D visuals, VR content and WebAR experiences for out-of-home campaigns.

I work across both the creative and the technical side of production. Blender is my main tool, and I'm comfortable picking up other software and workflows as a project requires. My strongest area is procedural work: assets and reusable Geometry Nodes tools that other artists can plug into their own scenes, such as the audio-reactive setups for my thesis, the tunnel generator in Echoes, and the trash cubes and towers in Throwaways.

Software Proficiency

Blender

Blender is my main tool, from modelling, shading and texturing to rigging, animation and rendering.

My strongest area is Geometry Nodes: procedural assets, automated animation, and reusable setups other artists can drop straight into their scenes.

I also write Python add-ons and workflow tools. My thesis add-on, Better Audio Tools, brings audio analysis and stem separation into Blender's node editors.

Premiere Pro

My editing tool for about ten years. I cut most of my projects in Premiere, including colour correction and sound design, and work with linked After Effects compositions.

Photoshop

My everyday image editor for textures, decals, screen replacements and quick paint-overs.

After Effects

My go-to for motion graphics and quick compositing: integrating CG renders, animated typography and audio-synced timing. I've also done a lot of rotoscoping in it, along with tracking and keying.

Houdini

I've used Houdini mainly on team projects: procedural modelling, scene assembly and rendering, plus rigid body and smoke simulations with the Axiom solver. Blender is still my home base, but I'm productive in Houdini when a project calls for it.

Nuke

Node-based compositing for pass-heavy CG integration: multi-layer comps, ST map reprojections, 3D tracking and basic roto. Not my main compositing tool, but I can step into a Nuke pipeline when needed.

AI-Assisted Development

I use AI coding assistants for the engineering side of my work: Blender add-ons, automation scripts and pipeline prototypes.

…and more

I'm not tied to one toolset. I pick up whatever software and workflow a project calls for.
